Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems have been considered a non-renewable technology because they use electricity.

Fact: Geothermal HVAC systems only use one unit of electricity that can move up to five units of cooling and heating from the earth to the building.
Myth: Wind and Photovoltaic are more favorable for renewable technologies when they are compared to geothermal HVAC systems.

Fact: Geothermal HVAC systems remove four times more kilowatt-hours of consumption from the electrical grid per dollar than wind and photovoltaic add to the electrical grid. Other technologies certainly play an important role, but geothermal HVAC is often the most cost-effective way to reduce negative effects on the environment for conditioning spaces.

Myth: Geothermal HVAC needs a lot of yard space for placing the polyethylene piping (Earth Loops).

Fact: It depends on the characteristics of the site if needed the polyethylene piping (Earth Loops) can be buried vertically so that little above-ground surface is needed. If you have an available aquifer that can be tapped into then only a few square feet will be

needed.

 

Myth: Geothermal HVAC heat pump systems are noisy.

Fact: These systems run very quietly with no equipment outside to bother your neighbors.

 

Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems will wear out.

Fact: Polyethylene piping (Earth Loops) can last for generations with no problems, while heat exchange equipment can last for decades. If Geothermal HVAC needs to be replaced/repaired the cost is much less than putting in an entirely new Geothermal HVAC system since your polyethylene piping (Earth Loops) is already installed.

Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems can only work in heating mode.

Fact: Geothermal HVAC systems work just as effectively in cooling and can be engineered to require no additional backup heat source. Some customers do tend to prefer having a small backup heat source if desired.

 

Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems cannot heat additional applications such as water and pools at the same time as a home.

Fact: Geothermal HVAC systems can be engineered to work simultaneously.

 

Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems put refrigerant lines into the ground.

Fact: Most geothermal systems only use water loops.

Myth: Geothermal HVAC systems tend to use more water.

Fact: As a matter of fact, Geothermal HVAC systems consume no water. If there is an aquifer being used to exchange the heat with the earth then the water being used is returned to the aquifer.

 

Myth: Geothermal HVAC don’t provide air comfort as well as other appliances.

Fact: Actually, Geothermal HVAC systems provide superior air comfort. They provide an increase in your air purification and dehumidification for ultimate comfort.
