For those who do not have ducted heating systems like space heaters, hydronic heaters and radiant panels, ductless mini split heat pumps are good addition in case the temperature drops down extremely low. Ductless mini splits are also good for small spaces or for add on rooms where a ducted heating system is not possible.
Ductless mini splits look like standard air source heat pumps. It has an indoor air handling unit and an outdoor compressor or condenser linked by a condensate drain. It also has a conduit where the power cable, suction tubing and refrigerant tubing can be found.
First Class HVAC provides installation and repair services for ductless mini split systems. Our technicians are knowledgeable with Mitsubishi ductless mini split units and is an authorized service center for Mitsubishi ductless units.
ADVANTAGES OF A DUCTLESS MINI SPLIT HEAT PUMP
Ductless mini heat pumps are flexible and easy to move from one area to another because they are small. Multiple indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit to provide heat to different areas of a building or home. Since each indoor units has its own thermostat, the temperature can be adjusted, thus, making it more energy efficient and money saving.
A ductless mini split heat pump is also easier to install. For instance, conduits come in various lengths and sizes. Some manufacturer brands can even provide conduits as long as 50 feet away. Because of the varying length, the compressor can be positioned somewhere where it is partially hidden from front view of the building or house.
Compared to a ducted system, a ductless mini split prevents unnecessary energy losses associated with the former. Heat loss from ducted system amounts to almost 30% of total space conditioning. This is quite a large amount of energy and money lost.
When it comes to interior design, ductless mini splits offer the greatest flexibility. They can be positioned anywhere in the building – in the ceiling, wall and floor (for floor standing models). They are not thick in size and can fit any space. They look sleek and high tech. They can be easily switched on and off with a remote control. It is also safer because only a small hole is needed for a ductless mini split.
DISADVANTAGES OF A DUCTLESS MINI SPLIT HEAT PUMP
Compared to other types, installation costs can be quite higher. Fortunately, operating costs are lower. In some areas, rebates are even offered so whatever is spent on installation is offset.
It is important that the correct indoor unit size be chosen. The correct location should be pinpointed as well. If it is too big or the location is not ideal, it could result to a short cycle, which promotes energy waste. Ideal temperature and humidity would not be achieved. Of course, an indoor unit that is too small cannot provide adequate heating in a room.
Condensate water forms in the outdoor unit. Therefore, it should be positioned in an area where water can be drained regularly.
Unfortunately, not too many HVAC contractors are trained in ductless mini split heat pump installation.
