The initial cost of a tankless water heater is more than that of a traditional water storage heater or boiler, but this is offset by lower maintenance and energy costs. On-demand water heaters have a life expectancy of more than 20 years and their components are easily and cheaply replaced. Regular maintenance of your water heater can greatly extend its life and minimize any loss of efficiency. In contrast, standard heaters last only 10-15 years and the entire system must be replaced after that time
