HVAC FILTERS: INEXPENSIVE BUT IMPORTANT
You won’t hear anyone say that you can get away with avoiding routine maintenance of your car or annual checkups with your doctor. If all of us felt the same about our heating and air conditioning systems, First Class HVAC wouldn’t have to replace so many air conditioners each summer and so many heaters each winter!
Autumn is coming around and it will be a relief. No more bumper to bumper traffic on Delaware’s Route 1. No more high energy bills! But don’t forget: a little elbow grease today will go a long way to keep those bills down all year.
We encourage everyone to change their HVAC filters once every season — even more often if your family suffers from allergies, has pets, or smokes inside. Not only does this stop contaminants from mucking up your systems, it keeps individual parts from getting stressed out by putting in constant overtime.
We commonly see three problems with filters:
- Dirty filters cause pressure drops and impedes air flow through your system.
- Damp filters beget mold which can damage your property and cause your allergies to flare up badly.
- A filter that doesn’t fit properly will cause the same problems as a dirty filter. When replacing a filter, always double check your unit’s label for specifications and installation instructions.
Once you have your new filter ready to go, turn off your system. Clean the area around it before and after the installation. Take a moment to make sure the filter fits properly by turning the system on.
Doing this your first time around may be stressful because you don’t want to harm expensive equipment. If you’d like some help, don’t hesitate to contact us for assistance.
