Reasons to Have a Humidifier at Home

If you live in an area with low humidity, you will often experience dry, irritated throat and chapped lips in the morning especially during wintertime. Your skin would often feel dry too. Oftentimes, you will experience static shock, observe your hair strands rising, experience eye irritation and many other effects of static electricity. You may also hear crackling in your drywall, wooden furniture and floor.

During winter, this aggravates the problem especially if you are using a heating system. To combat the ill effects of dry air, it is suggested that you have a whole house humidifier installed. A humidifier will add moisture to the warm air blowing from your heating ducts. It will help make the atmosphere more comfortable inside your home or building.

WHAT TO CHECK IF YOUR HUMIDIFIER IS NOT WORKING

Sometimes, you do not need a service call. Your humidifier may not work simply because of issues you can immediately solve. Check if the water valve is opened. Turn the humidistat up and see if humidity changes. Also, check the bypass damper and make sure that it is open. Other areas to check include the water pad or panel if it if completely clogged, the humidifier pad or wheel installed backwards, unit not plugged in, and a water level that is too low (for rotating drum type). Sometimes, the system might have been taken apart from last season and it was not assembled correctly.

WHEN TO CALL FOR A PROFESSIONAL HVAC SPECIALIST

Although winter is generally milder in Delaware compared to other states, it is still beneficial to have a humidifier at hand. Unfortunately, there are times when service calls are required because the humidifier does not seem to work well. Certain scenarios warrant the help of a professional heating repair specialist. For instance, a clogged water valve, bad solenoid valve, clogged orifice, bad humidistat, bad motor, float not working properly or a faulty wiring warrants professional help.
